What do you know about Football?
ACSL which stands for Austrian College Sports League is the largest student sports organisation in Austria. With 600 athletes from 9 universities competing in 3 sports with 25.000 active fans supporting their teams every move, it actively promotes sportsmanship and brings students together through the one thing everyone loves: sport!
The 2019 ACSL Football season has been as exciting as it could get. After the first 4 game days which took place at the Höhe Warte stadium, our WU Tigers came out on top with 4 wins and no losses. The TU Robots and the UniWien Emperors followed with a 2-2 ratio. The MedUni Serpents came out short with no wins this year. In the semi-finals which took place on the 18th of May, The Tigers beat the Serpents and the Emperors beat the Robots meaning that the final showdown between the Tigers and the Emperors took place on the 15th of June.
Who won?
Our Tigers of course! It was a hectic day, thousands of screaming fans were there to witness 2 amazing football games. The TU Robots deserved the 3rd place after they beat the Serpents 27:13. Our Tigers took the lead with an early touchdown and secured a 6 point lead which they kept all the way till the end of the game, winning 6:0 and raising the ACSL Summerbowl trophy after a truly amazing season with no losses!
The atmosphere
ACSL cheerleaders, live music as well as a DJ playing the hottest tunes, food & drinks, challenges, competitions, prizes… The day was packed with action which continued until the early morning at an official afterparty. The 2018/2019 season is sadly over. But the ACSL football tournament starts again in October, bigger and better than ever! Trust me, football is a lot more fun than it looks at first glance and the rules aren’t at all difficult to learn. Additionally, experienced commentators are explaining what is happening at the field every second of the game so even inexperienced fans (like I was before) can quickly get hooked!
Can I play in the ACSL?
If you like basketball or football, you are in luck! Both the basketball as well as the football tournaments start at the beginning of the next winter semester. Before the beginning, tryouts will take place for both the football and the basketball teams. Be there!
