This is Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy!

Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy isn’t just a master’s program. It’s a bold response to the world’s most urgent challenges. Climate breakdown, rising inequality, and global systemic risks can’t be solved with yesterday’s tools. At Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy, we combine economics and interdisciplinary thinking to shape new solutions. Grounded in science, driven by justice, and aimed at impact.

5 reasons to study Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy:

  1. Variety of specializations
  2. The program combines economics and interdisciplinary thinking to shape new solutions
  3. International classroom with more than 15 nationalities
  4. Integrated Approach grounded in solid theoretical knowledge and strong practical orientation
  5. The city of Vienna as one of the most livable cities in the world

The Master Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy is a full-time program which takes 4 semesters. Over the course of studies students acquire theory-based knowledge, methodological skills as well as the ability to apply these in an interdisciplinary context.

The Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy MSc foundation courses in the first semester provide coverage of research and writing on contemporary policy challenges; the history and philosophy of science; international and European law, institutions and governance; economic growth and development.

In the second semester two specializations are chosen from four options and undertaken along with the methods course and an agent level behavioral socio-economics course. Quantitative and qualitative methods are treated as equally important in the program and taught in combination, not as separate courses or with the former regarded as superior to the latter.

In the second year the concentration areas and methods course continue during the third semester. In addition, across the third and fourth semesters a minor course is run allowing teamwork and practical community engagement, called service learning.

In the fourth semester students turn to their thesis.
