Holy Supper (ukr. \u2013 Svjata Vecherja) is the most important part of Christmas Eve celebrations. Traditionally the meal consists of 12 dishes \u2013 Kutja (sweet grain pudding) is considered to be the main dish. As a rule after the meal people go to the church.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3655 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-5.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas celebrations in Ukraine\" width=\"835\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-5.jpg 835w, https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-5-768x496.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-5-800x516.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Christmas Eve is strongly considered to be a family holiday and it is common for the whole family to unite in one specific place \u2013 regardless of where they live, in Ukraine or abroad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3652 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-3.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas celebrations in Ukraine\" width=\"835\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-3.jpg 835w, https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-3-768x496.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.wu.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Weihnachten-Ukraine-3-800x516.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another old tradition in Ukraine is singing Ukrainian Christmas songs called Koljadky. Children gather in groups for the Vertep performance which includes singing Kolyadky while wearing different costumes.
